What is Svanetian Salt?

Svanetian salt is a traditional Georgian seasoning made with salt and aromatic spices such as:

  • Blue fenugreek
  • Coriander
  • Marigold
  • Red pepper
  • Caraway
  • Dill

This blend was traditionally created in the mountains of Georgia, where salt was scarce. Locals combined salt with herbs to stretch supplies — and discovered an incredibly flavourful seasoning.

🥔 Crispy Svanetian Salt Potatoes

Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 40 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 800g potatoes (cut into chunks)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1–2 tsp Svanetian Salt
  • Optional: garlic cloves
  • Optional: fresh herbs (parsley or dill)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C
  2. Toss potatoes with olive oil and Svanetian salt
  3. Spread evenly on baking tray
  4. Roast 35–40 minutes until golden and crispy
  5. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve
